The North American Floorball League is gearing up for its 2nd season during the summer of 2023. The first annual owners meeting was a big success, and many exciting developments are in the works.
The first announcement is the first ever NAFL Combine. This combine will be an opportunity for players from North America and around the world to highlight their skills and receive feedback from the owners and coaches of the NAFL teams. The combine will be held on Friday, March 10th, the day before the Texas Open Floorball Tournament in Dallas, TX. The combine will consist of skills drills, individual measurements, and scrimmages. Cost is $30, and all participants will receive an exclusive custom dri-fit jersey. There will also be several “free-agent” teams formed for the Texas Open tournament, so players are encouraged (but not required) to stay for the weekend and compete in the tournament as well. There are plans to host additional combines in European cities beginning in 2024.
Another exciting announcement is the growth of the league from 4 teams to 6 teams! The two new teams will be announced in the coming weeks, but the owners are actively preparing for the upcoming season. As part of the growth in the number of teams, the owners have made some changes to roster requirements. There will be 5 North American players required to be dressed for each game, and there is a limit of 12 non-North American players allowed to be dressed per game. This decision is in keeping with the league goal of showcasing some of the best floorball possible, while maintaining a focus on the development of floorball in the US and Canada. In 2022 we had room for 60 non-North American players, and in 2023 we have room for 72. In 2022 we had a minimum requirement of 20 US and Canadian players, and in 2023 the minimum is 30. The bottom line is that we are growing, and we are looking for players!
The 2023 season will be begin the week of July 10th, and will conclude on July 30th. The dates have been compressed to allow for easier travel for players and fans alike. Each team will play a total of 10 regular season games, with the top 4 teams heading to the playoffs on the final weekend.
